For those who already know me – hopefully you aren’t on this page.  For those who don’t, welcome to my website!

My name is Staci and I will be your host for as long as you will wander through my website.  I live in Vermont with my husband Geoff, and our cat Dolynn.  Geoff and I have known each other for almost 30 years as friends and been married for over 5 years.  He is my match – spiritually, personally and mentally.  My adventures with him over the years have been many.

I was trained in photography starting in Essex Junction High School under the watchful eye of Peter Huber and Wendy James.  I went on to study further, earning a photography minor from CW Post/ Long Island University. Here, under the tutelage of Arthur Leipzig, I renewed my passion for photography and all that I could communicate within the confines of a frame.  My work has been published in Seven Days, New York Newsday, Taekwon-Do Times and Reclaiming Quarterly. I have shot for Kitaro, Ted Nugent and TallerAnts Teen Institute.

I am fascinated by butterflies. Butterflies do not start their lives as beautiful winged creatures, but rather as lowly caterpillars. The butterfly emerges after transforming in the chrysalis, reflecting the idea that with maturity, our own true colors come forth.

Structures in their wings scatter and refract light, making them look iridescent green and blue, brilliant orange and red. This ability to reflect and refract light has caused them to be associated with magic and mysticism.

The butterfly’s magic is the power of transformation, reminding us that we can reflect light in powerful ways if we choose to do so.

Sulis is a Celtic goddess of healing and insight, whose name is derived from the Gaelic word for sun or eye.  Presiding over the hot springs of Bath, she is sunlight in the water, making the springs hot and healing. She was called Brigantia by the Britons; and Saint Brighid by the Christians. She is akin to the Roman goddess Minerva.

Fusion of the divine and nature appeared in a White Morpho butterfly flying at the Botanical Gardens in Montreal where I was shooting photos in 2005.  If you look closely in the center of the wing, to the right of the 2nd and 3rd dots, you will see the word “Sulis.”

Life is never quite the way it appears, but is always filled with light and color. I hope that my photographs reflect not only the world I see, but something deeper and more universal.

Sulis is a chosen name that I use when working to unite intellect and art, spiritual and mundane.
